Help fund a Georgian College scholarship for families and dependants of our Canadian Forces members

Help make the dreams of a military family a reality

A group of local business and community leaders are launching Operation Hero, a campaign to fund a Georgian College scholarship for members of Canadian military families.

Fundraising commenced April 2010, with a goal of reaching $1,000,000 to ensure a scholarship at Georgian College will be endowed in perpetuity to support future generations. Donations can be made in any amount with contributions of $1,000 or more receiving a commemorative Canadian flag.

In order to honour and say thank you to those who serve, who have served and those who have been lost, “Operation Hero” has been established. With the support of Georgian College this special scholarship will provide funding of education for the families and dependants of our troops through annual scholarships.

You are invited to help make this scholarship program touch the lives of as many as possible and join us in saying ‘thank you’ to those who have chosen to serve.

Every day throughout Canada more than 67,000 men and women honour our country through their service in the Canadian Forces. Though our recent focus has been in Afghanistan, our troops have also been on humanitarian and peacekeeping missions in Haiti, the Middle East, Republic of the Congo, Cyprus, the Sudan and many other regions around the world.

CFB Borden, Canada’s largest training base, is home to almost 1,800 soldiers, sailors, air men and women posted as base staff and instructors with over 15,000 service men and women of all ranks rotating through the base annually for training.

On the weekend of June 5th and 6th, CFB Borden will host the Canadian Forces Day and Air Show where, on the main parade grounds at the base, a Canadian flag will be flown for each Canadian soldier who has been lost in Afghanistan. On this weekend, on behalf of all those who have contributed, representatives of the Base and Georgian College will award the first Operation Hero Scholarship to a family member of one of our soldiers.
